This year has been the beginning of a new era, the beginning of a new century for the Brisbane Grammar School. Everywhere there is evidence that it is shedding the garb of past methods and adopting a totally new approach to education. The epitome of the school's progress is the new auditorium and library which are only harbingers of what lies ahead in our second century. 1969 will go down in the history of both mankind and this school. Man set foot on the moon for the first time and this school took a mighty step forward in the field of education by bringing the dream of men of foresight into reality. The enormous impact of the new building-complex will not be really appreciated until it has created a vastly different attitude towards education.
I feel that in the future, if it cherishes its proud heritage, the Brisbane Grammar School will become more like a university than a school, and will instil a sense of pride into all who belong to it. Change will become the key-word to success, and only, if the school continues to be flexible, will it be able to meet the demands of an ever-changing world. My imagination fails me when I try to think of this school a century from now.
But let us not be blinded by what we feel is progress. The function of the school in 2069 will be almost exactly as it is now — to shape and educate the young who will become the leaders of the future. No matter how much science dictates our future, we must not let it rule our hearts and stifle the warmth of the humanities, for the peace of mankind in the crucial years ahead will alone be born from understanding and goodwill.

Stanley George Corone was at the School from 1950 to 1954, over a period of great changes, both within and without; and as he was a boarder for the whole of his sojourn, these changes must have made a much greater impression on him than if he had been a day-boy. He saw the new Gymnasium (begun 1952) opened in October 1953, and the Memorial Swimming Pool officially opened in November 1954.
Stan Corone took an active part in School activities outside the classroom: in his first year he was a member of the Under 15 Football team which won its Premiership. In 1951 he joined the First Fifteen, of which he was Vice-Captain in 1953. In 1954, when he was School Captain, he was also Captain of Rowing (already in the First Crew in 1952 and 1953) and a member of the Athletic team.
With this record of active involvement in the life of the School, it is not surprising that during his business career he has continued his active interest in and service to the School. For most of this period he has been a member of the O.B.A. Council and has worked hard on its committees, organising and taking part in such things as cricket, football, rowing and social functions such as the Dinner-Dance. He is a member of the "Nil Sine Labore" Lodge and of the Grammar Speakers' Club, and has helped in the Centenary Building Fund campaigns. His example provides inspiration for all Old Boys who have the interests of the School at heart. We wish him well in his term of office.

In this era, an Old Boy's year designation was the year he entered Grammar; the convention today is the year he finished. A boy who started in 1993 and finished in 1997 was (93) but is now '97.
