Your Association during the year has actively involved itself in school life and support of the undertakings of the school, both sporting and educational, and has kept members informed through quarterly newsletters. The Annual Dinner was an outstanding success and a fitting tribute to the 25 years' service to the school by Mr. Howell; your Association announced at the dinner a major tribute to the retiring Headmaster — the establishment of the M. A. Howell Art Award, an Australia-wide competition with a substantial cash prize, to perpetuate the memory of the second-longest-serving Headmaster at the school.
As your representative I had the pleasure to be invited by our new Headmaster, Mr. Peter Lennox, to attend the Foundation Day Assembly and present the bursaries administered by us: to Gregory Harvey Buckle, son of the well-known cricketer and Old Boy Bill Buckle, and to Lachlan Davidson, who was Captain of Rowing last year.
The only disconcerting undercurrent detected by your Association during the past twelve months was the apparent dissatisfaction of both teaching and administrative staff at the school with their conditions — and, since the start of 1990, of parents also. I believe Old Boys who have contributed to the school are entitled to answers about the school's financial position and to see the audited reports of the Trustees, and I question the whereabouts of the global development plan and the new administration building announced about two years ago.

Time has winged its flight yet again. Another year has run its course. The School Magazine has again been compiled, and another Speech Night prepared. Sixth Form is once again, with mixed emotions of joy, sorrow and anticipation, preparing for that last day and that last assembly with the Headmaster, when all of the Seniors finally become a new batch of Old Boys.
All this notwithstanding, I would like to think that it has not been just any old year. Some momentous changes have occurred within Brisbane Grammar. A new decade has unfolded with a new set of books lining the shelves in the Headmaster's office. Mr. Vincent, the man we all know as "Sarge", retired after years of committed service, amidst speculation of "just who would run the School?" Brisbane Grammar's pursuit of academic prosperity continued, achieving in all walks of school life — Maths, Science, Foreign Languages, Literary Competitions and Quizzes. "Nil Sine Labore" and the commitment to excellence it implies dominates the classrooms.
In 1991, Brisbane Grammar's uniform will undergo a slight modification: the blazer, that traditional "Senior Badge" of the School, will be the badge of not only Sixth, but also Fifth Form. I hope that, more than ever, the blazer will be worn with a sense of pride both in self and School.

In this era, an Old Boy's year designation was the year he entered Grammar; the convention today is the year he finished. A boy who started in 1993 and finished in 1997 was (93) but is now '97.
