Old Boy David Little '60, a former School Captain, has a family connection to BGS spanning four generations back to the early 1900s: his father William Arthur Little (1914), uncle Edwin Maurice Little (1910), son Andrew Little '87 and grandson Oliver Hudson have all been students.
David's uncle Maurice was severely injured at Quinn's Post, Gallipoli, in May 1915. Throwing Turkish bombs back at the enemy, the seventh exploded in his hand; he lost both eyes, had his right hand and wrist amputated, and suffered other injuries, a casualty list even listed him as killed in action. He went on to master braille and write widely: in 1923 the Queensland Book Depot published his book Sonnets and Other Verses, its preface written by BGS Headmaster Bousfield, containing his well-known verse Nil Sine Labore. Maurice became the Founding President of the Sherwood RSSILA, stood for State Parliament to better the cause of returned servicemen, and studied economics at Oxford. He died in London in 1938, aged 45.
David's father William enlisted at age 20 in November 1917, serving with the Light Horse Reinforcements in Palestine (Es Salt, Amman, Jordan Valley). The Little family attended a special Remembrance Day Ceremony at the School marking the centenary of the Armistice. David is a strong supporter of Campaign 2020 and the 1960 Year Group Bursary.
