BGS Old Boy Lou Hailey, who left BGS in 1942 after completing Year 10, was a dual Olympian who should have been included in the BGS Olympic History story in the Winter 2016 edition. Competing in hockey, Mr Hailey was a talented goalkeeper who represented Australia at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and the 1960 Rome Olympics. The Melbourne Olympics was the first time Australia competed in an Olympic hockey tournament, finishing fifth. Hailey retired from international competition in 1961 but continued to play club hockey, helping Queensland University capture their first state premiership in 1964 alongside two other former Olympians. He went on to serve as an Australian selector, and after his hockey career enjoyed a successful career as an architect.
