The 1924 School Magazine

For every true Brisbane Grammarian to read the B.G.S. Annals, published last year, is perhaps to wonder, certainly to thrill with pride — to wonder on account of the School's partially unsuspected achievements, to thrill because his own beloved School has, within such a short space of time, achieved a truly noble tradition.

These Annals serve not only as a history of the School from its foundation, but also as an inspiration, through the account given of the School's achievements in all spheres and also of the individual deeds of her many distinguished alumni. It is needless to dilate on what all may read — how fine have been the lives and, indeed, deaths, of many whom our School has sent out into the world.

But the very splendour of these Annals should arouse a feeling of responsibility in each of us, when we realise that it falls upon us to sustain, both now and in later life, the greatness of our School, so that the records of another fifty years will show no retrogression. Self-complacence is retrogression; therefore, let us, in spite of our just pride, be concerned not so much with where we stand as whether we are progressing. May we, then, born into the School at this high stage of her upward march and mindful of our great birthright, strive to give her into the hands of our descendants still higher in her splendid course.

The President for 1923–24 was Brigadier-General L. C. Wilson. At the 1924 Annual General Meeting Mr. P. L. Hart was elected President for 1924–25; Mr. J. G. Nowlan continued as Hon. Secretary & Treasurer.
